Reid Wiseman

Astronaut
Born: November 11, 1975

Reid Wiseman is an American naval aviator and NASA astronaut. Selected in 2009, he flew to the International Space Station in 2014, logging months in orbit as a flight engineer, and later served as chief of NASA’s Astronaut Office, helping shape the corps he would eventually lead back toward the Moon. Wiseman commanded Artemis II in 2026, the first crewed mission to circle the Moon since Apollo 17. Over roughly ten days, he and his crewmates traveled farther from Earth than any humans before them, testing systems, flying the Orion spacecraft, and helping reopen the long-quiet corridor between Earth and its only natural satellite. The mission’s success—culminating in a Pacific splashdown—marked a decisive return to lunar exploration and positioned Wiseman as the first person in more than half a century to command a voyage into deep space.
