Byron Katie

Spiritual Speaker and Author
Born: December 6, 1942

Byron Katie is an American speaker and author renowned for developing a self-inquiry process called “The Work of Byron Katie.” This method helps individuals identify and question stressful thoughts, aiming to relieve suffering and promote self-awareness. Time magazine hailed her as “a spiritual innovator for the twenty-first century.”

Born in Texas and raised in California, Katie struggled with depression, addiction, and personal challenges until a transformative epiphany in 1986 she describes as follows: “I discovered that when I believed my thoughts, I suffered, but that when I didn't believe them, I didn't suffer, and that this is true for every human being. Freedom is as simple as that. I found that suffering is optional. I found a joy within me that has never disappeared, not for a single moment.” This insight led to “The Work,” a four-question framework designed to challenge beliefs and shift perspectives. The process includes “turnarounds,” which invite individuals to explore alternative viewpoints to their thoughts.
